Does the Bible teach that only 144,000 people go to heaven? Revelation 14:4 says, “These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.”
Notice what the verse actually says. The 144,000 are a specific, specially identified redeemed company. They are called virgins. They follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. They were redeemed from among men. And they are called the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.
But the verse never says they are the only redeemed people who may have heavenly life. Their special status does not automatically make them the complete population of heaven.
Revelation 7 also identifies the 144,000 under the tribes of Israel, and then describes a great multitude in materially different terms.
So the Bible absolutely teaches that the 144,000 are a distinct and remarkable group. What it does not establish is that heaven is limited to exactly 144,000 redeemed people.
The 144,000 are special. They are not presented as heaven’s maximum capacity.
