Coming from
Another angel announces Babylon’s fall and calls God’s people to come out of her sins. Kings, merchants, and shipmasters mourn because the luxurious economic system collapses suddenly, while heaven rejoices that God has judged the city for violence, deception, and the blood of prophets and saints.

Leads into
An angel binds Satan for a thousand years, during which he cannot deceive the nations as before. John sees thrones and those who were beheaded for Christ living and reigning with Him; this is called the first resurrection. After the thousand years Satan is released, deceives Gog and Magog, is finally cast into the lake of fire, and the dead stand before the great white throne for final judgment.
Key understandingExplore deeper
The rider is explicitly identified by titles and actions with Jesus Christ; this is not the same figure as the first seal’s rider merely because both use white horses.
The angel refuses worship and directs John to worship God, while Christ receives titles and authority consistent with divine kingship.
