First Peter strengthens believers who are strangers and pilgrims facing suffering and social hostility. Peter grounds endurance in the new birth, living hope, Christ’s resurrection, a reserved inheritance, the precious blood of Christ, and the believer’s identity as God’s people. The letter calls Christians to holiness, honorable conduct, submission in ordered relationships, suffering for righteousness, shepherding, humility, vigilance, and steadfast resistance to the devil.
