Start with the big picture.
First Thessalonians encourages a young church facing affliction. Paul remembers their faith, love, hope, conversion from idols, reception of the word, and endurance. He defends the sincerity of his ministry, urges holiness and brotherly love, comforts believers concerning those who sleep in Jesus, describes the Lord’s coming and the catching up of believers, and closes with practical instructions for watchfulness, church order, prayer, and discernment.
