Start with the big picture.
Ecclesiastes examines life "under the sun" with unusual honesty. The Preacher tests wisdom, pleasure, work, wealth, reputation, power, and human achievement, repeatedly exposing how death, uncertainty, injustice, and change limit what people can secure for themselves. The book does not end in despair: it calls the reader to receive God’s gifts thankfully, remember the Creator, fear God, and keep his commandments because every work will come into judgment.
