Start with the big picture.
Habakkuk records a prophet’s struggle with violence, injustice, and God’s surprising answer. Habakkuk first asks why the LORD tolerates wickedness in Judah. God answers that he is raising the Chaldeans, which creates a deeper question: how can a holy God use a nation even more violent than Judah? The LORD responds with a vision that must be awaited, declares that the just shall live by faith, pronounces five woes on arrogant oppression, and assures that the earth will be filled with the knowledge of his glory. The book ends with a prayer of awe and a deliberate choice to rejoice in God even if every visible support fails.
