Start with the big picture.
Joel begins with devastating locust destruction and uses that national calamity to call Judah to repentance before the day of the LORD. The prophet summons priests, elders, and people to fasting and solemn assembly, then announces God’s pity, restoration, the outpouring of his Spirit, cosmic signs, judgment on the nations, and final blessing for Zion. The book moves from immediate agricultural devastation to a much larger vision of divine judgment and salvation.
