What is happening here?
When Jeroboam’s son Abijah becomes sick, Jeroboam sends his disguised wife to the aged prophet Ahijah. Though blind, Ahijah knows who she is and announces judgment on Jeroboam’s house. The child will die, though he alone in the house is said to have something good toward the LORD. The chapter then turns south: Judah practices idolatry under Rehoboam, Shishak of Egypt plunders temple and royal treasures, and Rehoboam dies.
