What is happening here?
Jehu son of Hanani announces judgment on Baasha. Baasha’s son Elah is assassinated by Zimri, who destroys Baasha’s house but reigns only seven days before Omri’s supporters besiege him. After civil conflict Omri becomes king, buys the hill of Samaria, and establishes the northern capital. His son Ahab then surpasses earlier kings in evil, marries Jezebel, serves Baal, builds a Baal house, and makes an Asherah. The chapter closes with Hiel rebuilding Jericho at the cost Joshua had foretold.
