CHAPTER STUDY WORKSPACE

1 Kings 18

During the severe drought, Elijah returns to Ahab. He first meets Obadiah, a palace official who fears the LORD and had hidden one hundred prophets from Jezebel. At Mount Carmel Elijah confronts Israel and the prophets of Baal. Baal’s prophets cry, leap, and cut themselves without answer. Elijah repairs the LORD’s altar with twelve stones, drenches the sacrifice, prays briefly, and fire consumes the offering, wood, stones, dust, and water. The people confess that the LORD is God. Baal’s prophets are executed, and rain returns after Elijah prays.
