What is happening here?
The LORD sends Samuel to Bethlehem to anoint one of Jesse’s sons. Samuel is initially impressed by Eliab’s appearance, but God teaches him that the LORD looks on the heart rather than outward stature. David, the youngest son and keeper of the sheep, is chosen and anointed; afterward the Spirit of the LORD comes upon David, while Saul is troubled by an evil spirit and David is brought into Saul’s service as a skillful harp player.
