What is happening here?
Abijah becomes king of Judah and goes to war with Jeroboam. Before battle he addresses the northern army, appealing to God’s covenant with David, condemning Jeroboam’s calf worship and unauthorized priests, and contrasting that system with Judah’s temple service. Jeroboam sets an ambush, but Judah cries to the LORD, the priests sound trumpets, and God gives Judah a major victory. Jeroboam never recovers his former strength, while Abijah grows stronger.
