What is happening here?
Sennacherib king of Assyria invades Judah after Hezekiah’s acts of faithfulness. Hezekiah prepares Jerusalem by stopping outside water sources, repairing walls, strengthening defenses, and encouraging the people that the LORD is greater than Assyria’s forces. Sennacherib’s servants mock God and compare him with defeated national gods. Hezekiah and Isaiah pray, and God sends an angel who destroys the Assyrian military leadership. The chapter then records Hezekiah’s sickness, recovery, pride, later humility, wealth, engineering works, and the Babylonian envoys who test what is in his heart.
