What is happening here?
Josiah becomes king at eight, begins seeking the God of David in his eighth year, and starts purging Judah and even former northern territories of idols in his twelfth year. In his eighteenth year he orders temple repairs. During the work Hilkiah finds the book of the law. When it is read, Josiah tears his clothes and sends to Huldah the prophetess, who confirms coming judgment but says Josiah will be spared seeing it because his heart was tender. Josiah then gathers the nation, reads the book publicly, renews covenant commitment, and removes idolatry.
