What is happening here?
When Solomon finishes praying, fire comes down from heaven and consumes the sacrifices, and God’s glory fills the temple. The people bow and worship. After a massive dedication and feast, God appears to Solomon at night and says he has chosen the house. He promises to hear when his covenant people humble themselves, pray, seek him, and turn from wicked ways, but he also warns that persistent forsaking of God will bring removal from the land and make the temple itself an astonishment.
