What is happening here?
Amaziah of Judah generally does right, though the high places remain. He executes the servants who killed his father but obeys the law by not killing their children. After defeating Edom, he challenges Jehoash of Israel. Jehoash warns him with a thistle-and-cedar parable, but Amaziah insists and is defeated; Jerusalem’s wall is broken and treasures are taken. Later Jeroboam II reigns in Israel and restores territory according to the word spoken by Jonah son of Amittai because God sees Israel’s severe affliction.
