CHAPTER STUDY WORKSPACE

2 Kings 17

Hoshea becomes Israel’s last king. He pays tribute to Assyria but later seeks Egyptian help and stops paying, so Shalmaneser imprisons him and besieges Samaria. After three years the city falls, and Israel is carried into Assyria. The narrative then explains why: persistent idolatry, rejection of prophets, divination, covenant breaking, and continued walking in Jeroboam’s sins. Assyria resettles foreigners in Israel’s cities; after lion attacks, an Israelite priest is sent back, but the new populations combine fear of the LORD with worship of their own gods.
