Zedekiah rebels, and Nebuchadnezzar besieges Jerusalem until famine breaks the city. Zedekiah flees but is captured; his sons are killed before him, his eyes are put out, and he is taken to Babylon. Nebuzaradan burns the temple, palace, and houses, breaks the walls, carries away people and temple bronze, and executes leading officials. Gedaliah is appointed over those left but is assassinated, causing survivors to flee to Egypt. Years later Evil-merodach releases Jehoiachin from prison, speaks kindly to him, gives him an honored seat, and provides for him continually.
