What is happening here?
Jehoram son of Ahab removes a Baal image but continues Jeroboam’s calf worship. When Mesha king of Moab rebels, Jehoram joins Jehoshaphat of Judah and the king of Edom in a campaign that runs out of water. Elisha rebukes Jehoram but, for Jehoshaphat’s sake, promises water and victory. The valley fills without visible rain, Moab misreads the water as blood, and Israel wins. Mesha then sacrifices his eldest son on the wall, after which great indignation comes against Israel and the coalition withdraws.
