What is happening here?
After David returns to Ziklag, an Amalekite arrives from Saul’s camp claiming that Saul asked him to kill him and that he complied. Expecting reward, he brings Saul’s crown and bracelet to David. David instead mourns, fasts, and orders the man executed for claiming to have slain the LORD’s anointed. He then composes a lament, ‘The Song of the Bow,’ honoring Saul and especially Jonathan.
