What is happening here?
Exodus 12 records the Passover, the death of Egypt’s firstborn, and Israel’s departure. Each household is to take an unblemished lamb, kill it, place blood on the doorposts and lintel, eat the lamb with unleavened bread and bitter herbs, and be ready to leave. The LORD promises to pass over houses marked by the blood while executing judgment in Egypt. At midnight the firstborn die, Pharaoh summons Moses and Aaron, and Egypt urges Israel to depart. The chapter also institutes the Feast of Unleavened Bread and gives lasting Passover regulations so future generations will remember what the LORD did.
