What is happening here?
Exodus 14 records Israel’s deliverance through the Red Sea. God directs the people to camp in a location that causes Pharaoh to think they are trapped, and Pharaoh pursues with chariots and army. Israel fears and complains, but Moses tells them to stand still and see the salvation of the LORD. God places the cloud between Israel and Egypt, commands Moses to stretch out his hand, and divides the sea so Israel walks through on dry ground. Egypt follows, the waters return, and Pharaoh’s army is destroyed. Israel sees the great work, fears the LORD, and believes the LORD and his servant Moses.
