What is happening here?
Exodus 16 records Israel’s hunger in the wilderness and God’s provision of quail and manna. The congregation murmurs against Moses and Aaron and imagines Egypt as a place of full bread pots, forgetting the bondage they escaped. The LORD promises bread from heaven and uses the daily gathering pattern as a test of obedience. Each household gathers enough; attempts to hoard overnight produce worms except before the Sabbath, when a double portion remains good. The manna becomes Israel’s daily food, and a portion is preserved for future generations to see the bread with which God fed the nation in the wilderness.
