What is happening here?
Exodus 30 adds several essential elements of tabernacle worship. A golden altar is made for incense, with Aaron burning sweet incense morning and evening but forbidden to offer strange incense on it. A half-shekel ransom payment accompanies the census, with rich and poor giving the same amount. A bronze laver provides washing for priests before service. God gives a unique formula for holy anointing oil used on the sanctuary and priests and forbids ordinary imitation. A similarly unique incense mixture is made for the LORD alone.
