What is happening here?
Exodus 8 records three plagues: frogs, lice, and flies. Frogs overwhelm Egypt until Pharaoh asks Moses to entreat the LORD, but after relief comes he hardens his heart. Dust becomes lice, and this time the magicians fail and confess, “This is the finger of God,” yet Pharaoh still refuses. With the plague of flies, God makes a visible distinction between Egypt and the land of Goshen where Israel dwells. Pharaoh begins bargaining about worship, but Moses insists on the journey God commanded. When the flies are removed, Pharaoh hardens his heart again.
