What is happening here?
Genesis 10, often called the table of nations, traces descendants of Noah’s sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth after the flood. Peoples, lands, languages, families, and nations spread through the earth. The chapter introduces figures such as Nimrod and places such as Babel, Nineveh, Canaan, and the coastlands. Rather than being a mere list of names, it maps the family origins of nations that will repeatedly appear throughout the rest of Scripture.
