What is happening here?
Genesis 12 begins the Abraham narrative. The LORD calls Abram to leave country, kindred, and father’s house and gives promises of land, nation, blessing, a great name, and blessing to all families of the earth. Abram obeys and enters Canaan, building altars at Shechem and near Bethel. A famine then drives him to Egypt, where fear leads him to identify Sarai only as his sister. Pharaoh’s house is plagued, Sarai is returned, and Abram leaves Egypt.
