What is happening here?
Genesis 37 begins the Joseph story. Jacob favors Joseph, giving him a special coat, and Joseph’s brothers hate him. His dreams of sheaves and heavenly bodies bowing to him deepen their resentment. When Joseph goes to find his brothers, they conspire to kill him. Reuben tries to rescue him, but the others sell Joseph to traveling merchants. They deceive Jacob with Joseph’s bloodied coat, while Joseph is taken into Egypt and sold to Potiphar.
