What is happening here?
Genesis 41 records Pharaoh’s two dreams of cows and ears of corn, the butler’s remembrance of Joseph, and Joseph’s rise from prison to second-in-command over Egypt. Joseph insists that God, not he, will give Pharaoh an answer. He interprets the dreams as seven years of abundance followed by seven years of severe famine and proposes a national storage plan. Pharaoh recognizes Joseph’s wisdom, exalts him, and Joseph stores grain during abundance. His sons Manasseh and Ephraim are born before the famine begins.
