What is happening here?
Genesis 48 records Jacob adopting Joseph’s sons Ephraim and Manasseh as his own tribal heirs and blessing them before his death. Jacob recounts God’s appearance at Luz/Bethel and the promise of multiplication and land. Joseph positions Manasseh under Jacob’s right hand, but Jacob deliberately crosses his hands and gives the greater blessing to the younger Ephraim. He also gives Joseph an additional portion and expresses confidence that God will bring the family back to the fathers’ land.
