What is happening here?
Joshua gathers all the tribes at Shechem and retells Israel’s history from Abraham’s idolatrous ancestry, through the patriarchs, Egypt, the exodus, the wilderness, Balaam, Jordan, and the conquest. He calls the people to put away strange gods and choose whom they will serve. After they insist they will serve the LORD, Joshua renews the covenant, sets up a stone witness, dismisses the people to their inheritances, and dies at 110. The book closes with Eleazar’s death and the burial of Joseph’s bones.
