What is happening here?
Numbers 36 closes the book by resolving the inheritance implications of Zelophehad’s daughters. Leaders from Joseph’s family fear that if the daughters marry outside their tribe, inherited land will transfer permanently to another tribe. The LORD confirms the concern and requires the daughters to marry within their father’s tribal family. They comply by marrying cousins within Manasseh. The final chapter preserves both the daughters’ rightful inheritance and the integrity of tribal allotments as Israel prepares to enter Canaan.
