1 Kings 4 Overview
The chapter lists Solomon’s chief officials and twelve regional officers who provision the royal household. It describes a broad, peaceful kingdom, abundant supply, and people dwelling securely. Solomon’s wisdom exceeds that of renowned eastern and Egyptian sages; he speaks thousands of proverbs and songs and studies plants and animals. People from many nations come to hear him.

Key understandingExplore deeper
The administrative lists matter because they show how a large centralized kingdom actually functioned. The ‘vine and fig tree’ language describes settled security. Solomon’s thousands of proverbs and songs explain his literary fame, but the chapter does not say all of them are preserved in Scripture.
