1 Timothy 3 Overview
Paul gives qualifications for bishops and deacons and then explains the importance of proper conduct in the house of God, the church of the living God, pillar and ground of the truth. He closes with a compact confession of the mystery of godliness centered on God manifest in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen of angels, preached among Gentiles, believed on in the world, and received up into glory.

Coming from
Paul instructs the church to pray for all people, including kings and authorities, because God desires people to be saved and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all. He then gives instructions about men praying and women’s modesty, learning, and teaching authority in the church.

Leads into
Paul warns that in later times some will depart from the faith by giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils, including ascetic prohibitions on marriage and foods. He tells Timothy to nourish himself in good doctrine, reject profane fables, exercise unto godliness, model faithful conduct, devote himself to reading and doctrine, and take heed to himself and his teaching.
