2 Chronicles 31 Overview
After Passover, the people go throughout Judah and Benjamin and into Ephraim and Manasseh destroying images, groves, high places, and altars. Hezekiah organizes priestly and Levitical divisions and contributes royal support for regular offerings. He commands the people to give the priests and Levites their portions, and contributions accumulate in great heaps. Store chambers and trustworthy overseers are appointed to distribute the supplies. The chapter closes by saying Hezekiah works with all his heart and prospers in what he begins for God’s house and law.

Key understandingExplore deeper
Reform continues after the emotional high of a feast. Supporting priests and Levites allows them to devote themselves to the law and sanctuary work, and the abundance requires administration and storage. Chronicles therefore treats financial stewardship as part of maintaining worship, not merely an afterthought.

What is clear, and where care is neededExplore deeper
Keep this clear 1
Do not transfer Israel’s Levitical tithe system mechanically into a claim that Christians are under every Mosaic percentage and distribution rule.
Keep this clear 2
Abundant contributions are not evidence that giving purchases salvation or guarantees wealth.
Keep this clear 3
Destroying idols in Israel’s covenant territory is not a mandate for Christians to destroy other people’s property in pluralistic societies.
