Coming from

Psalm 146 centered on do not trust princes; praise the creator who helps the oppressed. Psalms is an anthology rather than a continuous chronological story, so the connection here is canonical and thematic.

In this chapter

Praise rises because God gathers outcasts, heals the brokenhearted, numbers stars, sends weather and provision, delights in those who fear Him, and uniquely gives His statutes to Israel.

Leads into

Psalm 148 turns to heaven and earth together summoned to praise their creator, continuing the Psalter’s arranged movement without requiring that the two psalms describe consecutive historical events.

Key understandingExplore deeper

Psalm 147 belongs to Book V of the Psalter (Psalms 107–150). The psalm joins cosmic providence and covenant revelation without confusing them: all creation receives God's care, while Israel received a particular revealed law.
