What is happening here?
Zechariah portrays a doomed flock whose shepherds exploit it. The prophet takes two staffs, Beauty and Bands, but the flock rejects his shepherding. His wages are weighed at thirty pieces of silver, which the LORD tells him to cast to the potter in the house of the LORD. The staffs are broken, and the chapter ends by portraying a foolish shepherd who neglects and devours the flock.
