1 Chronicles 11 Overview
All Israel gathers to David at Hebron and recognizes him as king. David captures the Jebusite stronghold that becomes the city of David, and Joab rises to military leadership. The chapter then honors David’s mighty men, beginning with extraordinary acts of courage and loyalty. Jerusalem, kingship, and faithful supporters now move to the center of the book.

Key understandingExplore deeper
Chronicles compresses the long conflict between Saul’s house and David found in Samuel. Its emphasis is the unity of Israel around the king God had chosen and the importance of Jerusalem.
