LESSON 13 OF 15

Church Through Every Season of Life

18 min Faithful for a Lifetime 3 Quick Checks
Lesson purpose

A church becomes more valuable, not less, as life becomes complicated. Over decades believers experience births, marriages, disappointments, job changes, sickness, grief, temptation, aging, and death. God designed believers to bear those seasons together.

In this lesson

  • Read the primary Bible passages carefully and in context.
  • Compare Scripture with Scripture before drawing the conclusion.
  • State the main truth in plain words you could explain to someone else.
  • Complete the Quick Checks and guided study before moving on.

Bear one another's burdens

Galatians 6:2 Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

You cannot bear burdens you never know about. Faithful relationships create enough trust and familiarity for believers to recognize when someone needs practical help, prayer, encouragement, counsel, food, transportation, childcare, a visit, or simply someone to sit with them.

Share joy and sorrow

Romans 12:15 Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

A church witnesses both celebrations and funerals. People rejoice at salvation, baptism, marriage, children, growth, answered prayer, and ministry fruit. They weep over death, sickness, broken relationships, disappointment, and loss. Long-term church relationships give believers people with whom to do both.

Church gives a place to seek spiritual care

James 5:14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:

James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

These instructions assume believers are connected to a church and know whom to call. The congregation provides relationships and spiritual leadership before the crisis arrives.

One reason to become rooted while life is calm is that you are building relationships you may desperately need when life is not calm.

FOUNDATIONS MASTERY

Compare Scripture with Scripture

Scripture trail: Galatians 6:2 • Romans 12:15 • 1 Thessalonians 5:11 • James 5:14 • James 5:16 • Galatians 6:2, Romans 12:15, 1 Thessalonians 5:11, James 5:14 • Acts 2:41-42 • Acts 20:28

Do not rush past the references. Open them, read the surrounding verses, and make the Bible carry the weight of the conclusion.

Think it through

  1. What responsibility does the passage give to the believer, the congregation, or church leadership?
  2. Which parts of this command require real relationships in a local church rather than isolated Christianity?
  3. How would decades of obeying this truth shape a believer, a family, and a congregation?

Teach it back

Without looking at the lesson explanation, summarize Church Through Every Season of Life in two or three sentences and support your explanation from Scripture. If you cannot explain it simply yet, return to the passages and work through them again.

STUDY IT FOR YOURSELF

Slow down and work the text

Reopen Galatians 6:2, Romans 12:15, 1 Thessalonians 5:11, James 5:14. Read enough before and after each verse to see the setting. Do not settle for remembering a slogan when you can inspect the wording for yourself.

  1. Write the main claim of Church Through Every Season of Life in one sentence.
  2. Underline or write down the exact words in the passages that support that claim.
  3. Compare at least two of the passages. What truth becomes clearer when they are read together?
  4. Ask what could be misunderstood if one phrase were isolated from its context.
  5. Name one concrete way this truth should change your faithfulness, service, relationships, or responsibility in a local church.
Before you continue

  • What responsibility does this lesson give to a church member or leader?
  • Why is this truth difficult to practice in isolation?
  • What would long-term faithfulness to this truth look like?
KEY TRUTH

A faithful church gives believers a spiritual family that can rejoice, weep, pray, serve, and carry burdens together through the changing seasons of life.
