LESSON 18 OF 24

Teach Others and Multiply

18 min 3 Quick Checks
Lesson purpose

Move from being only a receiver to becoming someone who can strengthen others. Mature Christians reproduce truth through teaching, example, encouragement, and practical training.

In this lesson

  • See the multi-generation pattern in 2 Timothy 2:2.
  • Teach from what you have actually learned and practiced.
  • Invest in people rather than merely collecting information.

Truth should move through generations of believers

2 Timothy 2:2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

Notice the chain: Paul, Timothy, faithful men, others also. Healthy Christianity does not end with one knowledgeable person. Truth is entrusted so it can be faithfully passed on.

This does not mean every believer holds the same office or teaches the whole church. It does mean mature believers should become capable of helping others understand and obey Scripture within biblical order.

Example gives teaching weight

Titus 2:7 In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,

Titus 2:8 Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

Teaching is weakened when life consistently contradicts the lesson. Titus joins doctrine, good works, seriousness, sincerity, and sound speech.

No teacher is sinless. The issue is integrity: does the teacher submit to the same truth he gives others? Is correction received? Are failures owned? Is the pattern moving in the same direction as the doctrine?

Invest personally

1 Thessalonians 2:8 So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us.

Paul’s ministry was not content delivery alone. He cared for people. Christian multiplication requires time, patience, repetition, questions, example, and relationship.

A mature believer may teach a child, take a new believer soul winning, read Scripture with someone, answer questions after church, train a volunteer, or encourage a struggling member. Multiplication often looks ordinary before its long-term impact becomes visible.

Think it through

  • Who is one person you could intentionally help grow over the next year?
  • What doctrine or skill do you understand well enough to teach accurately, and where do you still need more study first?
FOUNDATIONS MASTERY

Compare Scripture with Scripture

Scripture trail: 2 Timothy 2:2 • Titus 2:7 • Titus 2:8 • 1 Thessalonians 2:8 • 2 Timothy 2:2, Titus 2:7, Titus 2:8, 1 Thessalonians 2:8 • 1 Peter 2:2 • Ephesians 4:14-16 • Galatians 5:16-25

Do not rush past the references. Open them, read the surrounding verses, and make the Bible carry the weight of the conclusion.

Think it through

  1. Which part of this lesson concerns the free gift of salvation, and which part concerns discipleship after salvation?
  2. What specific command, habit, warning, or character quality should change the way a believer lives?
  3. What would this truth look like if practiced faithfully for ten, twenty, or forty years?

Teach it back

Without looking at the lesson explanation, summarize Teach Others and Multiply in two or three sentences and support your explanation from Scripture. If you cannot explain it simply yet, return to the passages and work through them again.

STUDY IT FOR YOURSELF

Slow down and work the text

Reopen 2 Timothy 2:2, Titus 2:7, Titus 2:8, 1 Thessalonians 2:8. Read enough before and after each verse to see the setting. Do not settle for remembering a slogan when you can inspect the wording for yourself.

  1. Write the main claim of Teach Others and Multiply in one sentence.
  2. Underline or write down the exact words in the passages that support that claim.
  3. Compare at least two of the passages. What truth becomes clearer when they are read together?
  4. Ask what could be misunderstood if one phrase were isolated from its context.
  5. Name one concrete habit, decision, relationship, or responsibility that should change because of this truth, then write the first step you will take.
KEY TRUTH

Maturity eventually turns outward. Learn truth well enough to live it, explain it, and patiently help faithful people pass it to others.
