The Way, the Truth, and the Life
Jesus comforts his disciples and promises the coming Comforter.
Before and during your reading
The disciples are troubled by Jesus' departure, but he speaks of the Father's house, his return, and the only way to the Father. Thomas and Philip ask direct questions, and Jesus answers them. The chapter then moves to his words about love, obedience, the Comforter, and peace. Keep Jesus' promise of salvation distinct from his instructions about the disciples' conduct and fellowship with him.
Questions to consider
- How does Jesus answer Thomas' question about the way?
- What does Jesus tell Philip about seeing the Father?
- What does Jesus say the Comforter will do for the disciples?
Put your study into practice
