A Blind Man Sees
A healed man's growing understanding stands beside the leaders' refusal to believe.
Before and during your reading
Jesus heals a man blind from birth. Observe how the neighbors, Pharisees, parents, and healed man each respond. The man does not initially know everything about Jesus; his testimony develops as he answers repeated questions. By contrast, the leaders insist they see clearly while dismissing the evidence before them. Jesus closes by speaking about sight and blindness in a spiritual sense.
Questions to consider
- How does Jesus correct the disciples' assumption about the cause of blindness?
- How does the healed man describe what happened to him?
- How do the religious leaders respond as the man's testimony becomes clearer?
