The Bread of Life
A crowd seeks bread, but Jesus points them to the life he gives.
Before and during your reading
John records the feeding of the multitude, Jesus walking on the sea, and a long discourse about the bread of life. Notice the difference between seeking another meal and believing on Christ. Verse 35 places coming and believing side by side. The chapter also shows how difficult sayings cause many disciples to walk away, while Peter confesses that Jesus has the words of eternal life.
Questions to consider
- Why did the crowd follow Jesus after the feeding?
- How does Jesus answer the question about working the works of God in verses 28–29?
- What does Peter confess when many others depart?
